Mark Bashian Bio
|
Mark Bashian was raised in northern Virginia outside of Washington, D.C. Upon graduating from Virginia Tech, he toured with the band “Java Soup” where he sang and played guitar. After the tour, Bashian worked as a stockbroker in the DC metropolitan area. He achieved significant success in the financial services industry, yet he was thirsting for more…From a young age, Bashian was making movies, playing in bands, and writing music. Working as a stockbroker, he could see what his professional life would be for the next 25 years. It was at this time he made a decision to focus on his creative passions. His first endeavor was making a movie trailer about himself. The trailer landed Bashian interviews for a developing reality TV show, “The Apprentice.” Bashian was a semi-finalist, but not a contestant, for the first season.
At the age of 26 Bashian enrolled at The Los Angeles Film School. He double majored in Directing and Producing, minored in Editing, and graduated with honors. Known for his tenacious work ethic, in less than a year Bashian wrote, directed, produced, and edited two short films, in addition to working at Sony Pictures.
In 2007 Bashian submitted his concept trailer "American League" for Spielberg's reality show "On The Lot." The producers then asked Bashian to write, direct, and edit a short film in 1 week. The result was "Parental Guidance." This film, in addition to Bashian's previous submissions, were hand picked by Spielberg to be among the 50 Finalists from over 12,000 submissions worldwide.
